1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how the Watcher — TV Show Tracker application for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV ("Watcher", the "App", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App. The App is published by TRY2APP LTD, the data controller for the purposes of this Policy.
Watcher helps you search for TV shows, track what you're watching, mark episodes watched, and see what's up next — with your library optionally kept in sync across your devices, and optionally connected to your Trakt.tv account.
2. Plain-English Summary
In one paragraph: Watcher works out of the box with no sign-up — we assign your device a random anonymous identifier so your tracked shows and watch history can sync between your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. If you choose to sign in with Apple, that identifier is linked to your Apple account instead of just one device. If you choose to connect Trakt.tv, we exchange watch history with your Trakt account on your behalf — we never see your Trakt password. We don't use your photos, camera, contacts, or precise location — Watcher doesn't touch any of those. We don't run ads and we don't sell your data.
3. App Store Privacy Label (Apple Disclosure)
Apple requires every app on the App Store to disclose its data collection practices in the "App Privacy" label shown on the App Store listing. The table below mirrors the exact disclosures we make to Apple under its three required categories.
Category A — Data Used to Track You
None.
Watcher does not link any data collected from this app with data from third-party apps or websites for advertising or tracking purposes, and does not share any data with data brokers.
Category B — Data Linked to You
The following data types are linked to your anonymous (or, if you sign in with Apple, Apple-linked) account identifier:
- Identifiers — User ID. A random identifier generated on first launch, used to sync your library across your devices.
- Contact Info — Email Address (optional). Only if you choose Sign in with Apple and elect to share your email (or Apple's private relay address) rather than hide it.
- Other User Content. The shows you track, the episodes you mark watched, your watchlists, and your notification preferences.
- Purchases — Purchase History. The product identifier and status of any Watcher PRO subscription you purchase.
Category C — Data Not Linked to You
None.
We do not run advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs that collect data independent of your account. Firebase Analytics ships as part of our backend SDK but is explicitly disabled in code and never collects or transmits data.
What we do NOT collect
For full transparency, the following data categories Apple asks about are not collected by Watcher at all:
- Health & Fitness
- Financial Info (payment, credit, other financial info — Apple handles all payment processing)
- Location (precise or coarse)
- Sensitive Info (race, sexual orientation, religion, politics, etc.)
- Contacts
- Photos, Videos, Audio, or Camera access — Watcher has no camera or photo-library feature
- Browsing History or Search History outside the App
- Device ID (IDFA or similar advertising identifier)
- Usage Data — Advertising Data
- Diagnostics — Crash Data, Performance Data
4. App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework requires apps to request user permission before tracking them across other apps and websites owned by different companies.
Watcher does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not present the ATT permission prompt because we do not engage in cross-app tracking, we do not access or use your Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), and we do not share any data with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Information We Collect (Detailed)
Anonymous Identifier & Optional Sign in with Apple
When you first open the App, our backend (Google Firebase Authentication) generates a random anonymous identifier for your installation — no name, email, or phone number required. This identifier lets your tracked shows and watch history sync between the App on different platforms you use (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV).
If you choose Sign in with Apple from Settings, that same anonymous identifier is upgraded and linked to your Apple ID, so your data isn't tied to a single device or installation anymore. Apple lets you choose whether to share your real email address or a private relay address that forwards to it — either way, we only ever see whichever address you chose to share, never your Apple password.
Your Tracked Shows and Watch History
The core purpose of the App is to remember what you're watching. We store, under your account identifier, in Google Cloud Firestore:
- The shows you choose to track
- Which episodes you mark watched or unwatched, and when
- Any watchlists or custom lists you create
- Your notification preferences (e.g. whether you want a reminder when a new episode airs)
This data is also cached on your device (via Apple's Core Data framework) so the App works fully offline; it syncs to Firestore whenever you have a network connection.
Connecting Trakt.tv (Optional)
Watcher can optionally connect to your account on Trakt.tv, an independent third-party service for tracking TV shows and movies, so your watch history can stay in sync between the two.
- Connecting uses Trakt's own sign-in flow (OAuth) — you enter your Trakt credentials directly with Trakt, never with us, and we never see your Trakt password.
- Once connected, Trakt issues an access token and a refresh token, which are stored securely in your device's Keychain — not on our servers.
- We use that token to (a) import your existing Trakt watch history and watchlist into the App, and (b) push episodes you mark watched in the App back to your Trakt account, so both stay in sync.
- You can disconnect Trakt at any time from Settings, which removes the stored token from your device's Keychain immediately.
- Trakt's own handling of your data is governed by Trakt's own privacy policy, linked in Section 8.
Local Notifications
If you enable episode reminders, the App schedules local notifications directly on your device using Apple's standard notification framework, based on air-date information already shown in the App. No notification content or scheduling data is sent to us or to any third party — this happens entirely on your device.
Subscription and Purchase Data
Watcher PRO, an optional subscription, is processed entirely by Apple. If we use a subscription-management partner such as RevenueCat to verify and sync your purchase status, the data involved is limited to an anonymous purchase identifier, the product identifier you purchased (e.g. a weekly or yearly Watcher PRO plan), and your purchase status (active, expired, refunded). We never see your Apple ID, credit card number, billing address, or any other payment information — that stays with Apple.
What We Do Not Collect
For absolute clarity, Watcher does not access your camera or Photo Library, does not collect your contacts, does not request your precise or coarse location, and does not read your browsing or search history outside the App.
6. How We Use Your Information
We use the limited information described above for the following purposes only:
- To sync your tracked shows, watch history, and lists across the devices you use the App on
- To exchange watch history with your Trakt.tv account, if and only if you've chosen to connect it
- To validate and track in-app purchases through Apple's StoreKit and, if used, RevenueCat
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not run ads in the App.
7. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with comparable law, we process personal data (to the limited extent described above) under the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — processing necessary to provide the App's core tracking/sync functionality and to fulfill purchases.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) — for connecting your Trakt.tv account and for local notifications, both of which are opt-in actions you take explicitly.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — processing for fraud prevention and security, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR) — retention of purchase records for tax and accounting, handled by Apple and our subscription partner.
8. Third-Party Services
The App relies on a small number of trusted third-party services. Each is bound by its own privacy policy and the limited purpose for which we use it.
Google Firebase
Purpose: anonymous account creation (Firebase Authentication) and cross-device sync of your tracked shows, watch history, and lists (Cloud Firestore). Firebase is operated by Google LLC.
Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Trakt.tv
Purpose: optional two-way sync of your watch history and watchlist, only if you choose to connect your Trakt account. Trakt is an independent service, not owned or operated by us — we are not affiliated with Trakt.tv.
Trakt privacy policy: https://app.trakt.tv/privacy
RevenueCat
Purpose: subscription purchase validation and entitlement management, where used. Data: an anonymous device-generated purchase identifier, Apple transaction identifier, and subscription state.
Privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Apple
Purpose: App Store distribution, StoreKit billing, Sign in with Apple, and the on-device UserNotifications framework used for episode reminders. Apple processes all payments directly; we never see your payment instrument.
Apple privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
9. Data Retention
- Anonymous/Apple-linked identifier: Retained while your installation or account is active. Deleted on request (see Account & Data Deletion below).
- Tracked shows, watch history, and lists: Retained until you remove them in the App or request account deletion.
- Trakt access/refresh tokens: Stored only in your device's Keychain, removed immediately when you disconnect Trakt in Settings or uninstall the App. Never stored on our servers.
- Subscription records: Held by Apple and, where used, RevenueCat, for the duration of your subscription plus the period required by tax and accounting laws.
10. Your Rights
European Union and United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
- Right to access the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure (the "right to be forgotten")
- Right to restriction of processing
- Right to data portability
- Right to object to processing
- Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. ICO in the UK, your national DPA in the EU)
California, USA (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to know what personal information is collected
- Right to delete personal information
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
How to Exercise Your Rights
Because most of the App's storage is tied to an anonymous or Apple-linked identifier rather than a name or email, the fastest way to exercise these rights is directly in the App: open Settings → Account → Delete Account, which permanently deletes your synced data. For anything else, contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Watcher — Privacy Request". We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (typically within 30 days under GDPR/CCPA).
11. Account and Data Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all synced data at any time, entirely on your own, from Settings → Account → Delete Account inside the App. This immediately and permanently removes your tracked shows, watch history, lists, and notification preferences from our Firestore database, along with your account identifier itself.
Deleting your account does not disconnect or affect your separate Trakt.tv account — if you connected Trakt, disconnect it first from Settings if you also want to remove the local Trakt token, and manage your Trakt.tv data directly with Trakt if you want it removed there too.
If you'd like written confirmation that your data has been deleted, email [email protected] with the subject "Watcher — Delete my data" and we'll confirm within 7 business days.
12. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or under the minimum digital consent age in your jurisdiction, which may be 14 or 16 in some EU member states). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.
13. International Data Transfers
Our service providers (Google Firebase, Trakt.tv, RevenueCat) operate from data centers located in the United States and, in some cases, the European Union. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these regions for processing.
For transfers of personal data from the European Union or United Kingdom to countries outside the EEA, we and our processors rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and other appropriate safeguards (Art. 46 GDPR).
14. Security
We protect the information we collect using industry-standard measures, including:
- TLS 1.2+ encryption for all data in transit
- Encryption at rest provided by Google Cloud
- Firestore security rules restricting each account's data to that account's own identifier
- Trakt access tokens stored only in your device's Keychain, never on our servers
- Anonymous identifiers by default — no real-name linkage unless you choose Sign in with Apple
No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a security incident affecting your data, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. For incidents that affect personal data of EU/UK users, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority as required by law.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
- Notify users via in-app message where appropriate
- For significant changes, provide a plain-language summary of what changed
Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
